What Sugar Does to Your Enamel

Posted on 2/25/2018 by ARCHPOINT
Sugar ARCHPOINT TX 75231Sugar does not work alone to harm the enamel on the outside of the teeth. It is much more than the sugar, but a process that creates the problems that eat through the enamel and make the teeth much more vulnerable. When it comes to eating healthy foods, sugars are something that should be stayed away from.

Here are the reasons why sugar is bad for the teeth in the mouth and what you can do about it…

How Sugar is Bad in the Mouth

Sugar is bad for the teeth because it activates the bacteria in the mouth since it feeds off of the sugars that are sitting in the mouth.

This then creates an acid inside the mouth that works to destroy the outside of the teeth and can actually eat through the tooth enamel.

When it comes to eating sugars, keeping them to a minimum and then waiting at least a half an hour before brushing your teeth can help. This will reduce the negative effects that are shown on the outside of the teeth.

Rinsing with water after eating sugary foods is something that is easily able to help reduce the negative effects that happen when the sugar sits in the mouth.

Scrubbing with abrasive cleaners in the mouth, however, is not recommended since this can damage the dentin on the outside of the teeth further.
