Ideal Candidate for All-On-4®
If you’ve heard about All-On-4® replacement teeth, you may be very interested in knowing if this solution is right for you. While it’s true that many more people can take advantage of dental implants today than ever before, there are still some patients who are better candidates than others. If you have lost a number of teeth, dental implants might be a good option for you, but the only way you will know is if you come in for a consultation! Every person’s dental history is a little different, so we really do have to take it on a case-by-case basis.
That said, there are a number of factors that can indicate whether or not you’re likely to be a good candidate for All-On-4® implants. Here are some of these different factors. Don’t worry if it doesn’t seem like you tick that many of these boxes. You may still be able to have dental implants.
You’ve Lost Most of Your Teeth
If you’ve lost a good number of teeth and are likely to lose more, All-On-4® may be the best way of getting replacement teeth. The extraction surgery and implant surgery can both be done at the same time, so you’ll have one recovery period instead of several.
You’re in Good Health
As with any surgery, being in good health is important. There is always some small risk of complications when a person goes under sedation. The better your health is, the lower the risk of something unexpected happening. You’ll also recover more quickly, and there won’t be as much concern about infection. Being in good oral health is also important because, again, your recovery time will be less.
If you have gum disease, especially advanced gum disease, you may have lost some of the bone in your jaw. This can make the All-On-4® procedure a little more difficult since the implants may need to be placed in different locations. The titanium posts do act as roots for your new teeth, which means they will need a good amount of support from the bone to hold the teeth in place. However, even if you have lost a good amount of bone volume, it does not mean you are not a good candidate.
Many people who have lost some bone are still able to get All-On-4® replacement teeth, and many don’t even need bone grafts. This is because All-On-4® implants don’t have to be placed in the same place in every patient. With careful study of your mouth, it’s likely that we will be able to find suitable implant sites.
What About Age?
Age rarely plays a part in determining if All-On-4® is right for you. Of course, older individuals are more likely to be dealing with certain health issues than younger patients, but that doesn’t mean implants are not an option. Anyone from teens to seniors can take advantage of All-On-4® replacement teeth.
